STEVE TORRENCE NO. 8 AS QUALIFYING BEGINS AT MAPLE GROVE 

October 5, 2012 -- Steve Torrence left Maple Grove Raceway Friday night as the eighth-quickest Top Fuel driver for Sunday’s Auto-Plus Nationals.

He felt he may have been quicker had the tires on the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top not lost traction.

“We were on a really good run when the tires shook.  It kicked the blower belt off,” explained Torrence, who still managed a time of 3.836 seconds at 282.19 mph. 

His second attempt was a problem-free 3.806 at 321.04 mph lap that put the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. dragster into the top half of the field for the fourth of six Countdown to the Championship events.

“We have good racing conditions,” he said, “and I hope it continues on Saturday.  Top Fuel qualifying is very close and we want to step up our performance.”

Only six-hundreds of a second separate the first seven qualifiers.  Morgan Lucas leads with a 3.760 at 326.92 mph down to Khalid alBalooshi’s 3.776
