TORRENCE NO. 2 AFTER ‘AWESOME’ RUN AT HOUSTON

April 27, 2012 -- Steve Torrence continued to serve notice Friday that the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster is one to be respected and reckoned with as the Full Throttle Racing Series marches through the 17-race prelude to the Countdown to 1 six-race championship showdown.

The driver from Kilgore, Texas, put an exclamation point on it by taking the quickest ride of his career – 3.772 seconds at 322.18 mph – down Royal Purple Raceway near Houston with many friends and followers cheering for him.

The time equaled that of Morgan Lucas although Lucas is in first place because he had the faster speed, 327.74 mph.

“That was an awesome run!” said a jubilant Torrence.  “I am so happy we ran well in front of the big crowd from Capco that followed us here.  It was gratifying because they are the ones who have supported us over the years.

“That run could have been better, too, because the engine dropped two cylinders before the finish line.  We have two more runs (Saturday) to see if we can run quicker and get ready for race day.”
