TORRENCE VS. MCCLENATHAN IN ROUTE 66 NATIONALS FIRST ROUND

June 30, 2012 -- After putting together three solid qualifying runs and placing fifth for Sunday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 Nationals, Steve Torrence is ready to add more 2012 round wins to his total.

His quickest run – 3.795 seconds at 317.42 mph – in the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster sends him against Cory McClenathan (12th, 3.852 at 311.05) in the opening round at Route 66 Raceway.

“We ran well Friday night and our first run on Saturday was third-quickest of the session (3.836 at 318.54),” he said.  “We were a little too aggressive on the tune-up for the last run and it knocked the tires loose so I shut it off.

“The first round is going to be interesting because track conditions are going to be a lot different than they were during qualifying.”

Torrence is fourth in Full Throttle points.
