IT’S TORRENCE AGAINST LANGDON IN FIRST-ROUND ACTION AT DENVER

July, 21, 2012 -- As it has over the years, Bandimere Speedway continues to play the role of an excellent host for NHRA’s Mopar Mile-High Nationals.  The weather is hot (maybe a bit too much), and the scenery is beautiful.

If only there was more oxygen in the air.

“The conditions here are great,” Steve Torrence said Saturday afternoon after qualifying the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster 11th for Sunday’s eliminations.  “It’s just that the lack of oxygen is completely different than anything we will race in the rest of the year.  It’s taking a toll on our team as well as everyone else’s up here.”

His quickest elapsed time of 4.091 seconds at 294.24 mph came on his first 1,000-foot run Saturday and sends him against number 6 qualifier Shawn Langdon in a meeting of Texans.  Langdon’s best was 3.957 at 303.03 mph.

“That will be a good match for us,” commented Torrence, who lately has been the hottest driver on the circuit.  He was runner-up at the last two Full Throttle series races.  He earned his first victories at Atlanta and Englishtown, N.J.  He is fourth in points (877) and Langdon is seventh (650).
