TORRENCE 10TH AFTER FIRST QUALIFYING DAY AT SONOMA

July 27, 2012 -- Steve Torrence put together two solid runs Friday in ideal conditions as qualifying got underway for Sunday’s Sonoma Nationals.

The Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster put up a 1,000-foot elapsed time of 3.832 seconds at 320.20 mph that was 10th quickest.

“It was a good run,” he said, “but it was just weaker than we expected.  We were trying to run harder but it just didn’t happen.

“The conditions Saturday morning will be good.  We should step it up and move up the qualifying ladder.”

Doug Kalitta is the provisional leader at a track record 3.785 seconds.
