STEVE TORRENCE, ANTRON BROWN SQUARE OFF IN SONOMA

July 28, 2012 -- Given a choice, Antron Brown would not have been Steve Torrence’s pick as a first-round foe for Sunday’s NHRA Sonoma Nationals.

The two met last Sunday in the Denver semifinals and Brown won.

Brown is second in Full Throttle series standings while Torrence is fourth (1,060-950) and coveting more valuable points.

“I’m really looking forward to racing Antron,” Torrence commented.  “We are good friends and I do like to race him.  The outcome will either move us closer to him . . . or he will distance himself from us.”

Torrence is in this predicament because he qualified 11th in the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster with a 1,000-foot run of 3.832 seconds at 320.20 mph.  Brown is sixth (3.799 at 322.27).

“Our Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster is running well and I know we will have a good car on Sunday.”

The car was consistent.  He also ran 3.833 seconds on Saturday.
