TORRENCE’S 3.838-SECOND RUN THIRD-QUICKEST AT SEATTLE

August 3, 2012 -- On a beautiful Friday perfect for running low elapsed times, Steve Torrence did just that, getting off to strong start for Sunday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways.

The Texan from Kilgore held the provisional top spot after the initial qualifying session with a 1,000-foot time of 3.897 seconds at 311.56 mph.  He improved to a 3.838 at 319.37 in his second lap but wound up third, a mere one-thousandth of a second behind Spencer Massey and Tony Schumacher, who ran identical 3.837 times.  Massey’s 319.60-mph speed put him in first place.

“We had a good day,” Torrence commented.  “We made very good run and are running as well as Schumacher and Massey – two drivers who are ahead of us in points – and that’s what we want to do.

“We’ll try to make two more stellar runs Saturday to get ready for Sunday’s eliminations.  We’d like to finish it in Torrence Racing style.”
