TORRENCE LOOKS AHEAD TO DALLAS AFTER EARLY LOSS AT CHARLOTTE

September 16, 2012 -- An unhappy Steve Torrence left a damp zMax Dragway Sunday vowing something would be done before Friday’s AAA Texas Fall Nationals begin at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis.

The focus wasn’t on his Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel team.  It was directed at himself for losing his first-round race in the rain-delayed O’Reilly Auto Parts Nationals, the opening event in the Countdown to the Championship.

Rain, for the third consecutive weekend, kept drivers on the sidelines.  This stoppage lasted about four hours, and when eliminations finally got underway, Torrence and Bob Vandergriff were the first pair of cars to go to the starting line.

Vandergriff left first and Torrence came close to catching him, but Vandergriff got the win light in 3.831 seconds at 323.27 mph, about seven feet ahead of Torrence’s  3.824 at 320.58.

“I wasn’t pleased with that . . . but it happens in this sport,” Torrence said.  “I will be working on my reaction times while we get ready to go racing at my home track in Ennis, Texas on Friday.”

“I do want to thank the Charlotte fans for staying around and waiting for the rain to go away.  They were there all day, and we really appreciated their support.”
