TORRENCE LOOKS AHEAD AFTER EARLY LOSS AT U.S. NATIONALS

September 9, 2012 -- The regular season might have ended earlier Sunday than Steve Torrence preferred, but the Countdown to One championship playoffs are just a few days away.

J.R. Todd left the starting line first and Torrence’s Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster couldn’t catch him – 3.834 seconds at 313.07 mph to 3.828 at 321.19 – in the opening round of eliminations in the conclusion of the rain-delayed 58th Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.

“We didn’t end this part of the season like we preferred,” Torrence said.  “But we are going to put that behind us and focus on preparing for the Charlotte race.”

Torrence’s performances during the first 17 events included three victories in five final rounds and totaled 1,171 points that put him fourth in Full Throttle Series standings. The points for the top 10 contestants will be reset for the six-race event that begins at Charlotte, Sept. 14-16.
