October 26, 2013 -- On a remarkable Saturday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Steve Torrance scored a personal jackpot and vanquished the drag racing demons that have stalked him for most of this 2013 Mello Yello drag racing season.

Torrence was hoping crew chief newcomer Bobby Lagana would have a tuning combination that would bring him smiles, and he certainly did.  They were smiles of relief when the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster began the day with a 1,000-foot run of 3.882 seconds at 323.81.

They turned into broad smiles when a stunning 3.783-second lap at 327.25 mph followed and placed him second in the 16-car line-up.

“It is definitely a great way to begin this race,” said Torrence.  “Both Torrence Racing teams contributed to getting us back on track.  It is a long way from not qualifying in Reading.

“I am ready to go racing!”

He meets T.J. Zizzo (15th, 3.855 seconds at 318.39 mph) in the opening round.
