STEVE TORRENCE, LIKE BILLY, WANTS TO RACE

October 4, 2013 --The end of NHRA’s Mello Yello Drag Racing Series is only three races away.  The drivers still searching for championships or to better top 10 positions are poised to make the most of the opportunities.

Steve Torrence is not involved in a title race, but he sits in 10th place, 19 points shy of ninth-place Bob Vandergriff in Top Fuel points going into the 29th annual Auto-Plus Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway near Reading, Pa.

That, however, is not what motivates the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Top Fuel driver.  He and his dad Billy, a Top Fuel driver for four races, positively want to race each other.

“My dad has really done great in the car so far this year,” Steve remarked.  “Not many people can jump into a Top Fuel dragster and go out and win rounds in their first ever race.  He has always been a heck of a racer, but he will have to earn it if he wants a win against me.

“That being said, I can honestly say it has been great to have a teammate these last several races, and the fact he is my dad makes it all that much better.”

They begin qualifying action Friday afternoon in what they want to end up with them in opposite lanes waiting for the green light.
