BILLY TORRENCE RUNS WELL BUT ANTRON BROWN WINS

October 6, 2013 -- The battle of the rookie and the reigning Top Fuel champion did not follow the “Rocky” script for Billy Torrence Sunday in the first round of the Auto-Plus Nationals.

Racing Antron Brown for the second Sunday in a row, Torrence was second off the starting line (.055-.099) and he could not catch him in the 1,000-foot sprint at Maple Grove Raceway.

Brown got the win light but Torrence registered the quickest time and fastest speed – 3.808 at 325.92 mph to 3.811 at 321.88.

“That was a good race,” said Torrence, who now has competed in five Mello Yello Drag Racing Series races.  He won his first round at the U.S. Nationals. “I am learning on every lap.”

“We still have two more races to go.  I will be working more on my practice tree (starting lights) for the next race at Las Vegas.”
