POSITIVE PERFORMANCE PERKS UP TORRENCE’S OUTLOOK FOR LAS VEGAS RACE

April 2, 2013 -- After producing very competitive Top Fuel elapsed times in the first two rounds of the recent Gatornationals, Steve Torrence really wanted to go racing again . . . and soon.

At the time, however, the next race was almost three weeks away.

“When we didn’t qualify at Phoenix, we knew we needed to prove we still have a good race car, and we did that at Gainesville (Fla.),” commented Torrence.

He quickly grabbed the attention of his rivals in the first round by blasting down the 1,000-foot track in a scintillating 3.769 seconds at a whopping 326.63 mph to defeat Morgan Lucas.  Torrence’s speed was the fastest of the weekend and his time was the second-quickest.

Torrence’s competitive day concluded in the second round when Antron Brown lit the win light first in 3.771 at 326.48 to 3.793 at 326.08.  Brown eventually won the event.

“Now we are really looking forward to getting back to racing, especially because it is at Las Vegas,” said Torrence.”

The Mello Yello series makes its first of two 2013 stops at the prominent Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, April 5-7.

“Our Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. dragster has run well there and we are very optimistic about our chances this weekend,” he continued.  “We went to the semifinals at this race last year in our new team’s seventh race.

“It is definitely fun racing there.  The crew has worked hard to make sure we will have a good shot at making another visit to the winner’s circle.”

Torrence won his first Top Fuel race last year at Atlanta and followed with victories at Englishtown, N.J. and Seattle on the way to ninth place in the series.  He is determined to improve that position during the remaining 21 events.

“We have a lot of fans in Las Vegas and I am looking forward to visiting with them,” he said.  “The plan is to roll the dice and get good results on Sunday.”
