TORRENCE RACES DIXON, GRUBNIC AND LUCAS IN FIRST 4-WIDE ROUND

April 20, 2013 -- Steve Torrence lost two qualifying rounds Friday when a strong rain storm hit zMAX Dragway in Charlotte, NC.  It didn’t mean a thing because Saturday – on a beautiful, sunny day – he claimed the sixth starting position for Sunday’s crowd pleasing Dollar General Four-Wide Nationals.

“We really had a good day,” Torrence said after his quarter-mile run of 3.820 seconds at 320.81 mph on his initial 1,000-foot lap.  And thanks go to (crew chief) Richard Hogan.”

It put the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster solidly into the line-up.  The car smoked the tires on its second run and Torrence shut it off and coasted to the line in 4.422 at 181.62.

“I am certain we will be ready for eliminations.”

Joining Torrence’s first-round foursome are Larry Dixon (3.851), David Grubnic (3.855) and Morgan Lucas (3.788).
