TORRENCE POSTS EIGHTH-BEST STARTING TIME AT LAS VEGAS

April 6, 2013 -- Just when he needed it most, Steve Torrence had good luck in Las Vegas Saturday afternoon on what was his last -- and best -- qualifying run of the weekend. It guaranteed him an eighth-place start in Sunday’s SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

He drove the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster to the finish line in 3.846-seconds at 320.89 mph.  Coincidentally, Bob Vandergriff and Morgan Lucas also had the same time.  When a tie occurs, the driver with the fastest speed gets the higher position.

Vandergriff was the fastest (326 mph) and earned the seventh slot.  Torrence was second, giving him lane choice over Lucas in the first round.  Torrence defeated Lucas in the opening round at Gainesville last month.

“Our last run was a good one for us,” he said.  “I like to race here and I know we will have good race car.  We are living lucky.  We’ll take it one round at a time and hope we can win four of them on Sunday.”
