STEVE TORRENCE CONFIDENT, READY TO BOUNCE BACK AT SUMMERNATIONALS

May 29, 2013 -- Steve Torrence’s enthusiasm is at its highest level in several months as he prepares to defend his Top Fuel title in the 44th annual Toyota NHRA Summernationals at one of drag racing’s revered race tracks – Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ.

Much of his passion comes from the improving performance of the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. dragster last month after Lee Beard moved into the team’s crew chief role.

Torrence is fighting to climb into the top-10 in Mello Yello Series points standing as the 17-race regular season reaches its eighth event.  He is 12th, only 26 points behind the final qualifying position for the Countdown to the Championship six-race finale.

“The car has shown improvement in the last couple races,” commented Torrence.  “We have been going quicker and faster on every run, and we are really pleased with that.  Lee is still finding his way with the car, but it is running very well.

“I like racing at Englishtown.  It’s a great place to race.  Last year’s win was bitter-sweet because our good friend John Mitchell passed away that Sunday morning.  We were able to walk away with the Wally, and that was our main objective.”

Torrence also believes his team can compete for, and win, another Wally this weekend.

“I am getting my focus up and my confidence back,” he remarked.  “Who’s to say we can’t have a repeat win?  We definitely have all the good people and parts to do it . . . so don’t count us out.”
