CAUTIOUS TORRENCE WOULD LIKE ANOTHER WIN IN ENGLISHTOWN

June 1, 2013 -- He wasn’t the odds-on favorite last year when he was the surprise winner at Raceway Park, and he is not this time around, but Steve Torrence said he is excited about the possibility of winning Sunday’s Toyota Summernationals.

His first Friday qualifying run of 3.866 seconds at 314.83 mph held up Saturday as seventh quickest and sends him against Dom Lagana, who was 10th at 3.876 at 314.24, when eliminations get underway.

“We are confident, and we know we have a tough competitor in Lagana,” said Torrence.  “But we are excited.”

Crew chief Lee Beard continues to feel more comfortable making the tuning calls on the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster in his second Mello Yello Racing Series event with the team.

“We need to seize the opportunity to gain points here so we can get back into the top 10,” Torrence commented.  “And a race win would be a great way to start.”
