TORRENCE RACES LEAH PRUETT IN OPENING ROUND AT BRISTOL

June 15, 2013 -- Bristol Dragway refused to yield many good qualifying times during Saturday’s final two sessions and Steve Torrence will start second in Sunday’s Thunder Valley Nationals.

Torrence was one of many drivers who encountered tire-smoking conditions on the laps during a warm, sunny day.  His Friday best was 3.779 seconds at 324.51 mph.  But the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster could do no better than 5.475 at 122.56 mph on Saturday.

“We were disappointed we couldn’t get down the track,” Torrence commented.  “The guys are checking everything to make sure we have a good race car.  We will be prepared for eliminations.”

He races Leah Pruett (15th, 4.744 at 161.48 mph) in round one.
