TIRE SMOKE LEADS TO LOSS FOR STEVE TORRENCE

June 2, 2013 -- Steve Torrence did everything he could Sunday to add another round win to his 2013 total, but he didn’t receive much assistance from his Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster.

His .053-reaction time launched the dragster from the starting line ahead of rival Dom Lagana in the opening round of the Toyota Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J.  But soon the rear tires lost traction, forcing Torrence to give up the chase.

Lagana, who experienced engine trouble on the 1000-foot lap, won with a 4.782-second, 155.97-mph effort while Torrence’s elapsed time was 9.032 at 72.37 mph.

“That obviously wasn’t the kind of results we wanted,” commented Torrence, who won at Raceway Park last year.  “We are still working on it.  This was crew chief Lee Beard’s second race with team.  The more we work together, the better we will be.”

Next up on the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule is the Ford Thunder Valley Nationals, June 14-16, at Bristol, TN.
