TORRENCE RACES FELLOW TEXAN MASSEY IN SEATTLE’S OPENER

August 3, 2013 -- After watching it rain long enough on Friday to have NHRA officials cancel the first two qualifying sessions of the Northwest Nationals, Steve Torrence made the most of two Saturday laps that placed him eighth in the starting Top Fuel line-up for Sunday’s showdown at Pacific Raceway.

“The conditions were good, but we didn’t run as quickly as we wanted on those laps,” commented Torrence, who is the defending champion.  His best time of 3.812 seconds at 319.07 mph in the Torrence Racing Top Fuel dragster came on his final 1,000-foot run.  His first run was 3.858 at 305.

He won an exciting race last year, beating Shawn Langdon in the title-round.

“We need to step up our program,” the Texan from Kilgore continued.  “We’re going into race day with a mission of winning rounds in eliminations.  We want to make sure we qualify for the Countdown to 1 championship playoffs.”

Torrence is 10th in Mello Yello Series points with 688. David Grubnic is 11th with 563.

Only two more races remain – at Brainerd, Minn., Aug. 16-18 and the U.S. Nationals Indianapolis, Aug. 30-Sept. 1—before the Countdown begins.
