TORRENCE STILL PUTTING UP GOOD NUMBERS

September 13, 2013 -- Not even a weekend off between races has cooled Steve Torrence’s sizzling elapsed times.  He registered his best of Friday – 3.787 seconds at a thundering a 327.59 mph – that held up for fifth place on the first day of the Carlyle Tools Carolina Nationals.

It also served as the beginning of NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship, and that means each top 10 Top Fuel driver is concentrating on earning the largest number of points during the next six crucial races.  The winner will receive a $500,000 check.

“That is a good incentive,” remarked Torrence, who began the day with a 3.858-second, 323.74-mph 10000-foot lap.  “I think we have an opportunity to be in the mix for the championship.  Lee Beard has been making a lot of good calls on our Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. dragster.

It’s going to be an interesting battle for the championship. We are ready to go.”
