STEVE TORRENCE LOSES CLOSE ONE IN FIRST ROUND

September 22, 2013 -- A befuddled Steve Torrence slowly shook his head Sunday while reviewing another frustrating first-round loss in the second of six NHRA Countdown to the Championship races.

“We did everything we could,” he remarked after losing a close race to Tony Schumacher in the final day of the AAA Texas Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex in
Ennis.

Schumacher won with a time of 3.825 seconds at 323.04 mph to Torrence’s 3.889 at 313.22.

“We left first and I was trying to stay ahead of him,” said Torrence, “but he got around me.  We are disappointed,” continued Torrence. “This is the second week in a row that my dad and I went out in the first round.  We had a lot of supporters because this is one of our home tracks.”

Torrence remained in 10th place in Mello Yello Series standings.

The team continues its busy playoff week at St. Louis, Sept. 27-29.
