September 22, 2013 -- Billy Torrence did his best to avoid a second straight first-round loss Sunday in the AAA Texas Fall Nationals, and his determination to catch Bob Vandergriff provided an exciting start to competition.

Torrence followed his rival off the Texas Motorplex starting line and registered his quickest time of the weekend – 3.840 seconds at 316.90 mph – while in pursuit, but he ran out of track.  Vandergiff saw the win light in 3.841 at 3.841 mph.

“That was a good race,” said Torrence of nearby Kilgore.  “We wanted to get that round win.  It hurts for us to go out in the first round here with everyone supporting us.  We will bounce back next week at St. Louis.”
