BILLY TORRENCE OPTIMISTIC GOING INTO ST. LOUIS

September 26, 2013 -- Billy Torrence continues his first tour of NHRA’s race tracks on Friday with a stop at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Ill., the site of the AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals, Sept. 27-29.

This is only his fourth race since making the jump from NHRA’s Sportsman competition into the 300-mph nitro-methane gulping Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster.  In his debut in the U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis, he won his first round against Spencer Massey.

“It was nice to get that round win in my first race,” Torrence said, “and now we are setting out to get that second one.”

Billy and his son/ teammate Steve suffered through consecutive losses in races at Charlotte and their hometown of Dallas but Billy is optimistic about this race.

“I think we may have something for them this weekend,” Billy continued.  “We tested after the Dallas race and the results were very promising.  The car ran much better.

“We are looking for a good weekend.”
