STEVE TORRENCE: ANOTHER SMOKY LOSS AT ST. LOUIS
September 29, 2013 --
There was a look of disbelief on Steve Torrence’s face after another unsuccessful attempt to win a round in NHRA’s Countdown Championship Top Fuel playoffs Sunday in the AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals.
“We can’t seem to get a break or anything,” Torrence commented after another opening-round loss – his third in the six events – at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Ill.
He did not have a chance to challenge David Grubnic. Tire smoke started from the moment he hit the throttle on the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. dragster. He coasted across in 7.162 seconds at 92.28 mph. Grubnic had trouble at halftrack, but he won in 4.138 at 261.27.
“We have a few days to work on clearing everything up before our next race at Reading, Pa.,” he concluded.
Next up is the Auto-Plus Nationals at Reading, Pa.
