TORRENCES WIN BEFORE THE RAIN
Racing in Lucas Winternationals Continues Monday

February 10, 2019 -- Reigning World Champion Steve Torrence and his dad, Billy, won their first round matches Sunday before rain forced NHRA officials to suspend and postpone the remainder of the program at the 59th annual Lucas Oil Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.

Racing will resume Monday with the final two-car match in Top Fuel followed by first round racing in Funny Car and Pro Stock.

Steve Torrence extended to 25 the number of consecutive racing rounds he has won in his Capco Contractors Top Fuel dragster by dispatching Steve Faria of Tulare, Calif., with a time of 3.668 seconds.  Billy Torrence, who qualified No. 2 behind his son, responded by sending Cameron Ferre to the sidelines in round one.

When racing resumes Monday, Steve will get a bye to the semifinals while Billy will oppose Doug Kalitta in the second round.

“It’s very humbling to work with this team,” Torrence said.  “Everyone is so focused and committed to the ultimate goal which is to win another championship.  I m love these Capco guys. They’ve taken everything to a new level and I’m just the lucky guy who gets to drive the baddest hot rod around.”

Racing is scheduled to resume at 10 a.m., local time, on Monday.
